What do we celebrate! and we aren't new to this....




We genuinely celebrate neurodiversity and we have been doing this for years!


We have been recognising, validating, honouring and celebrating difference.


Let's be clear though...

We don’t ignore real impairments and

We don’t just validate and

the goal is not ‘fix’

 

As the Principal Psychologist and Director of Treat Yourself Well Sydney, I have witnessed significant changes in how difference is understood. Throughout my career, I have worked with teams committed to advancing awareness and shifting both the language and the frameworks we use to understand difference, and this work continues today.


At Treat Yourself Well, we recognise that Autism and ADHD are real neurodevelopmental conditions that involves strengths, challenges and impairments and that society often creates unnecessary barriers.


Our focus is on improving quality of life, not forcing conformity and we do that with compassion, care and in an evidence based way honouring lived experience.


While we recognise the importance of medical understanding of disability, we hold this space with respect for neurodivergent identity.


Our practice recognises that an individual’s neurotype affects several aspects of mental health, including:

  • likelihood of experiencing mental health conditions

  • which conditions someone may be vulnerable to

  • how well standard treatments work

  • what therapy approaches are most helpful.


We are a bunch of clinicians who get the complexity and lean into it!
